WHAT IS CAMP STYLE AND WHY IT’S THE THEME OF MET GALA 2019

The Met Gala is coming, and this year’s theme is named Camp Style.

But… What does it mean? The event timed to coincide with the opening of the new exhibition "Camp Notes” and there is a whole story behind the name. Let us help you with this:

“Camp loves kitsch, but it is not kitsch” Susan Sontag. “Camp is a woman wrapped in a dress of three million feathers. Camp embodies the victory of style over content, aesthetics over morality, irony over tragedy” Sontag writes in his essays.

The main adepts of the camp style in fashion include Marc Jacobs, John Galliano during his work at Dior (here is excessiveness, theatricality, and kitsch), Alessandro Michele - Gucci creative director, who mixes snake print, rhinestones, and frills with acid flowers, giving it all as “library chic,” and Jeremy Scott from Moschino (think of his collections inspired by McDonald's and Barbie doll).
