The five 2000s trends loved by celebrities

Share:

It feels like we've gone back in time, to when Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie ruled Hollywood with a baton, John Galliano had just taken over the reins at Dior, and Fendi, under Karl Lagerfeld, was heading into a world of pastel pinks, fur, and wraparound jersey. The 2000s were a cult, long mocked now back in vogue thanks to well-established media gimmicks. It makes the end of the line for the power of street style, which first reintroduced Y2K trends-including flowers, butterflies, and low waists-until it reached the catwalks, with Blumarine captaining the big comeback. And there's no trend that doesn't come through show business, and so, it's the celebrities most beloved by the younger generation who make the Y2K comeback official. From Nicola Peltz-Beckham to Dua Lipa, here are five Y2K trends to copy throughout 2023.

2 The 2000s trends dictated by celebrities: the denim dress

It's hard to forget when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake stood hand in hand on the red carpet of the 2001 American Music Awards in a matching total denim outfit. For pop fans, it was a striking moment. Those who devote their lives to fashion, on the other hand, will see in Blumarine's Spring Summer 2023 collection a heartfelt tribute to the American singer's dress, and will be persuaded to wear a similar one, as Dua Lipa did.

3 2000s trends dictated by celebrities: the corset

The corset was a favorite of Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Jean Paul Gualtier. It was so iconic on the catwalks that all the stars of the 2000s never missed a chance to wear it even during the day for coffee at Starbucks. The corset 2.0 is transformed, but it doesn't give up its strong character. Lizzo wears it in white, with an imperceptible romantic touch, but Dolce & Gabbana - which rediscovers archival pieces with its Spring Summer 2023 fashion show - proposes a more sensual version, made of lace, tulle and transparencies.

4 The 2000s trends dictated by celebrities: the flashy belt

They were called statement belts, that is, 'impressive belts.' They were the quintessential accessory of the 2000s: flashy, covered in glitter and worn over dresses. Compared to a look of mere functionality, no benefit could be found, but Y2K belts were perfect like that, iconic in their uniqueness. Bella Hadid, a veteran in repurposing trends, sports a black leather belt over a jersey evening dress. Complete with mask sunglasses. The quintessential 2000s look.

5 The 2000s trends dictated by celebrities: the Nike Air Max 97s.

Launched on the market in 1997, the Nike Air Max 97-or simply Silver-were a favorite for decades. Everyone wanted them, everyone wore them. Especially during the 2000s, when it was inconceivable to own a different pair of sneakers than the silver snap. Then they disappeared, but their return was a given. Laura Harriet wears them according to the perfect Y2K style codes: off-duty, with a grid jumpsuit and beanie.
