Sustainable fashion trends of 2020
In the last few years, there has been a rise in sustainable fashion. This rise goes along with exponential growth in the number of brands and sustainable initiatives on the market.
SECOND-HAND CLOTHING STORES
Influencers, celebrities, and other fashion gurus have revamped the rep of secondhand shops. In the fight against waste, second-hand shopping is one of the best things you can do. We have started to turn our backs on fast fashion and that's a good thing.
UPCYCLING
Customize, redesign, add, amend. Upcycling is a process of transforming products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value. The most sustainable outfit is the one already in your wardrobe. With upcycling, we give existing garments a new life by altering the fit, style, or color.
THE GROWING TREND OF PINEAPPLE LEAVES
Clothes made out of fibers from pineapple leaves were not unusual. Long before the era of cheap cotton, pineapple silk was considered a symbol of affluence in the Philippines, Brazil, and Hawaii. Luckily, owing to the increased eco-awareness of consumers today, more fashion brands have begun to explore the use of pineapple fibers in their products once again. The textile company Piñatex leads the industry in the development of this material, and we will see more fashion items such as shoes, bags, and wallets made from pineapples in 2020.
INCREASED USE OF ORGANIC MATERIALS
Organic cotton is becoming a popular eco-friendly alternative to conventional cotton since it is grown without the heavy use of chemicals that can cause harm to farmers and the natural environment, and requires fewer inputs and water.
DOING MORE WITH LESS
In 2019, more people became eco-aware and a part of this awareness was the understanding that one's wardrobe needn't overflow with clothes and accessories to create the best of looks.
