Outdoor aperitivo in Milan: the best venues in town

Share:

A nice aperitivo and a garden (or a place full of plants and flowers): now that spring is here, that's all we need in Milan to end the day perfectly and relax, in company, in a different atmosphere that is also a little bit vacation.

In this gallery you will find the addresses not to be missed and of every kind (and for every budget): new gardens of luxury hotels that just thanks to aperitifs give an opportunity also to outside guests to discover them, "hidden" addresses that are a safe shelter even in the busiest streets of the city, very elegant places with a country chic style that make you feel in the country just a step away from the center.

Mandarin Garden, Mandarin Oriental

There is no doubt that the big news of spring in Milan (and beyond) is the Mandarin Garden, Mandarin Oriental's new garden in the spaces of the Mandarin Bar & Bistrot. An urban oasis open from morning to late night with an outdoor courtyard that is a little paradise with sofas, bistro tables, soft lighting, lots of greenery to frame it curated by landscape design studio P'ARCNOUVEAU. People drop by for lunch and dinner to sample menus signed by chef Antonio Guida and taste and sweet creations prepared daily by Master Pastry Chef Marco Pinna on display in an elegant glass case, and of course for aperitifs. The cocktails made by the team of mixologists led by Guglielmo Miriello should definitely be sampled: for this summer, he has come up with a drink list inspired by The Around the World in 80 Days, the cult book by Jules Vernes that is turning 150 years old. There are 11 drinks, like his travels, and with ingredients and scents they evoke the world, from India to Hong Kong. The background is the rhythm of the residendt DJ, the mood among the most elegant in Milan.

Carlo al Naviglio

Country chic atmosphere in the heart of Milan. Indeed, in one of the most beautiful places in Milan: it is Carlo al Naviglio, the new restaurant and cocktail bar signed Carlo Cracco, born from the vision of entrepreneur Dino Scaggiante, inside a 17th-century villa overlooking the banks of the Naviglio Grande canal. An oasis with a wonderful outdoor dehor and a large garden, as well as elegant interior spaces furnished with design pieces, to be tried also for aperitifs, with cocktails by the talented Barmaid Yasmine Montesano accompanied by Cracco's creations made by the young Neapolitan Executive Chef Luca Pedata. Throughout the summer there will also be special appointments titled Urban Nature, to find new energy by being in touch with nature by trying holistic disciplines and more, while at the same time tasting refined proposals.

GūD

It is always a vacation to have an aperitif at GūD, whether it is under the Orti Fioriti and the skyscrapers of City Life, in Darsena, at Bagni Misteriosi, at Idroscalo (where there is GūD BEACH), in Bocconi or Eustachi: a relaxed and easy atmosphere, in crazy places unique to Milan.  But this is not the only great reason to come back. The format born in 2018 from an idea of Ugo Fava together with chef Stefano Cerveni and Marco Giorgi has many novelties for the aperitif menu of the warm season, starting with GūD BAO, soft sandwiches reminiscent of those of oriental cuisine, but also stuffed with absolutely Mediterranean ingredients (you can find them in Citylife, Bagni Misteriosi, Darsena and Bocconi). There are three choices: Italian Bao (with stracciatella, eggplant caponata and basil), Bubba Bao (shrimp, mayonnaise, chives, zest lime) and our favorite Zen Bao (soft pork, pork belly cooked at low temperature and lightly smoked, zen sauce made with a reduction of honey, soy and sake, green beans and daikon). You can have one or the combo of three perfect for putting on the table and sharing with friends, along with GūD's cult favorites such as flatbreads with decidedly tasty and always seasonal toppings and GūD Poke Bowls. Drinks, in addition to beer and wine, include the new fruit cocktails created to match the bao by head bartender Aldo Carano, the new GūD JUICE which are 5 fresh fruit and vegetable extracts, and #zeroalcohol anti-heat cocktails. In short, as always there is everything.

Surfer's Garden

It is one of the most beautiful "hidden" places in Milan, Surfer's Garden, which can be reached by entering the Cappelli Sports Center, south area beyond Porta Romana. It's another world, with surfboards, skateboards, and memorabilia, introducing you to a romantic garden perfect for aperitifs in warm weather. If you like fancy cocktails, this is your place.

People's Place

There is new air in the urban garden of Tommy Hilfiger's People's Place: a place where you can breathe Hilfiger style, open in a metaphorical as well as literal sense, that is, where you can share experiences and culture. It starts with a rich calendar of events that each week is a chance to come back: the must are the Fresh Thursdays @ People's Place in collaboration with Radio Raheem, in which space will be given to musical talents from the national and international scene, emerging and not. All this while sampling the new menu, starting with the Tommy Yummy which is the gourmet tray with sandwiches that are a trip to America designed just for happy hour, and a cocktail list that changes seasonally.
