How imagination and travel fueled Christian Louboutin's success

Christian Louboutin has never had a clear plan for his entire 29-year career as a designer. He sincerely believes that in order to achieve his goal you need to sincerely enjoy life and learn life in travels.

Christian's travel experience started from a young age. His favourite book is "Traveling around my room." Stuck in one place for six weeks, the author talks about the "journeys" that he made without ever going outside. Christian was also interested in French films of that time, he watched people and places far from everything that he knew in his daily life, he could travel without leaving home.

"Throughout my life I have always been interested in other cultures and civilizations, I've connected with countries that aren't mine, cultures and food that were exotic to me", said Christian.

The Art Deco Museum, Palais de la Porte Dorée (MAAO), has also greatly influenced Christian life. In the basement of the museum was a huge aquarium with tropical fish, the colors of which hit Christian. This place can be said to have fueled his imagination. He studied this place very carefully.

Christian Louboutin began to engage in shoes from a young age, this was caused by a love of dancers and the art of dance. “The only thing I can give a bird that she doesn’t have yet is shoes,” Christian thought. 

At 23, Christian begins to work with the famous shoe designer Roger Vivier.  But after this collaboration, Christian promised to never work with shoes again, since he was not attracted to work for someone. After he stopped working with shoes, he began to be realized in landscape design, as he loved being with nature. 

And once, after meeting with the owner of the Galerie Véro-dodat store Eric Philippe, he really liked the place where the store was located. Christian believed that this would be the perfect place for me to tune in to a return to shoe design.

He was delighted when he found out that the store in the Gallery, which is a beautiful covered passage in the 1st district, became accessible. And soon, a Louboutin shop was born in this store.

Christian Louboutin was constantly interested in other cultures, carefully studied and admired their beauty while traveling. Egypt, Portugal, Rio and Paris are the places that have most influenced Christian. It was in Bhutan that he was struck by the skill of local residents, with what amazing techniques they work and this greatly influenced the designer’s imagination.
