Glitter lipstick: how to apply it

With a catalyzed effect, featuring macro-spheres with mirrored metallic reflections, the lipstick worn on the catwalk by a dazzling and radiant Gigi Hadid is definitely striking and spectacular. It seems to be perfect for getting noticed, and catalyzing attention on New Year's Eve because it adds an extra dose of radiance to the smile.

Light shards on tinted lips are the new "never again without" of beauty addicts: on TikTok, the hashtag #glitterlipstick boasts over 111 million views. But this is not entirely new, as this type of product experienced its magical period with the Y2K trend of the late 1990s and early 2000s, the trend combining millennial pop culture with bright colors, glitter, and a decidedly kitschy aesthetic. The glitter on the lips undoubtedly harkens back to the disco fashion of that period, but above all it evokes the glitz and sparkle of Studio 54 in New York City, the mythical place that was a haunt until the 1980s of celebrities from film, music and art, where dressing in sequins and sequins was almost a must.

A glitter lipstick for every occasion

It gives the smile an explosive luminous cocktail, in short, with remarkable appeal. Although one wonders, "Won't it be a bit challenging?" Glitter lipstick actually comes in many versions: with showy chunks of eye-catching reflective particles ideal for special events, but also with very fine shards of shattered light that coat the lips with a very light and sophisticated metallic veil wearable by all.

There are different types. Many brands offer lipsticks with glitter matching the color of the tinted cream, perfect for daytime, other times in contrast, containing for example gold or silver shards, so as to be even more interesting under the lights, and perfect for parties. In addition, there are glitter-rich transparent lipsticks on the market that can be used alone or over lipstick.

The importance of preparing the base

For a good result, it is essential that the labial mucosa is perfectly intact, smooth and free of irregularities and peels. To allow a perfect adhesion, ensuring a long lasting result, it is advisable to do a gentle scrub to remove any roughness and smooth the surface.

A key step is the use of a lip contour pencil. The color should match the shade of the glitter lipstick. It is suggested to keep the stroke on the lip line, and avoid "overlining," the makeup technique that makes the mouth look more voluminous. To this optical effect would be added the one already procured by the light captured by the glitter enlarging the lip surface: without the support of a professional makeup artist, the result may not be pleasing.
