Evolution of outfits for the Oscar Awarding Ceremony
Every year, one billion people watch the broadcast of the award in the field of cinema. Well, the dresses and incredible jewelry of famous actresses posing for photographers on the red carpet at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles are discussed by everyone.
The tradition of the formal dress code was introduced by actress Janet Gaynor in 1929 at the first ceremony. That night, Gaynor chose a black velvet dress and became the first Oscar winner for a brilliant role in three movies.
In the early 30s, the outfits were modest, dominated by black and dresses with long sleeves. The exception was Helen Haze, who in 1931 came in a black skirt with a top, which was decorated with a luxury brooch. Helen broke the dress code but very elegantly.
Beginning in the 1940s, the dress code was changed and actresses appeared more and more often in dresses embroidered with sequins and diamonds, V-neck dresses. This decade is called the "Golden Year of Hollywood".
The period from 1942 to 1945 greatly influenced the dresses for the ceremony. Many of the outfits were mostly black.
In the postwar years, following French fashion, actresses chose dresses with an emphasis on the waist and puffy skirts in the style of Christian Dior couturier. Audrey Hepburn wore the outfits of couturier Givenchy, and Grace Kelly put on a satin dress created by designer Edith Head for the ceremony in 1955.
In the 60s - 70s, the stars began to wear trouser suits for the ceremony. The best suits demonstrated Barbara Streisand (1969) and Jane Fonda (1972). In the late 70s and early 80s, Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep followed this style too.
Vivid examples of bold images of the stylish 90s at the ceremony - Winona Ryder in a black strapless outfit, Cindy Crawford in a bandage dress Hervé Léger and Elizabeth Hurley in a snow-white Versace dress, embroidered with crystals, Helen Hunt in a blue silk Gucci dress.
Now actresses prefer outfits of lighter shades than in those years. A new era in the selection of outfits for the red carpet came in 2018. This year, all the actresses came to the Golden Globe ceremony in black, expressing an elegant protest against sexual harassment, the scandal around which flared up in Hollywood with particular force.
The 92nd ceremony, which took place yesterday, surprised with a wide variety of outfits. But there are certain trends. So, this year the stars have relied on the classics, without outright nakedness. To a greater extent there were white, black and silver outfits. We selected the most spectacular outfits.
