In 1958, he got a job with Cristobal Balenciaga, and in the mid-1960s, together with his girlfriend Sonia Knapp, founded his own brand. Just a few years after its founding in 1965, the fashion house Emanuel Ungaro opened its doors in the heart of Paris.

Listening to the music of Wagner and Beethoven, Emanuel could work 12 hours in a row. In his work, Ungaro always adhered to the philosophy adopted by Balenciaga - the client is always wrong.

In 1996, Ungaro sold a majority stake in his House to the Salvatore Ferragamo brand, but until 2004 he continued to work on couture collections of his own brand and even retained part of the shares. But in 2005, the brand was completely sold for $ 85 million. Creative directors of the brand at one time were Giambattista Valli, Vincent Darre, Peter Dundas, Esteban Cortazar, Lindsay Lohan. Now the post of creative director of Emanuel Ungaro brand is Marco Colagrossi.
